SPECIAL EVENT
Max Hastings Goes to the War Movies
Saturday 10th May 7pm
To coincide with the 80th anniversary of VE Day and the publication of his new book Sword: D-Day Trial By Battle, we are delighted to welcome Sir Max Hastings for a special evening: Max Hastings Goes to the War Movies
Showing clips from war films that have had a lasting impact on him, Sir Max will discuss the depiction of war on screen in light of his experience as both a war correspondent and military historian. Featuring personal documentary footage from conflicts he has reported on (the Cambodian Civil War, the Vietnam War, the 1973 Yom Kippur War and the 1982 Falklands War), Sir Max will also talk about his life and career.
Hosted by Martin Fletcher, former foreign and associate editor of The Times, who himself has reported from several war zones, this promises to be an illuminating evening.
Sir Max Hastings is an author, journalist and broadcaster whose work has appeared in every British national newspaper. He has written thirty-two books of which the latest Sword: D-Day Trial By Battle is published in 2025. He has received awards both for his books and journalism, the most recent being a 2019 Arthur Ross Literary Award from the US Council on Foreign Relations for Vietnam: An Epic Tragedy 1945-1975. He was editor, then editor-in-chief, of The Daily Telegraph from1986-1995, and of the Evening Standard 1996-2002.
