One of the most controversial figures of the 20th century, Leni Riefenstahl became infamous for her Nazi propaganda films Triumph of the Will and Olympia, but she always denied close ties with the Third Reich. This captivating exploration of Riefenstahl’s life and work uses extensive materials from her private estate to understand her motivations and lifelong denial.

Chair: Ian Haydn Smith is a writer, editor and curator. Publications include Well Documented: The Essential Documentaries..., A Chronology of Film, The Short Story of Photography, and New British Cinema. He was the editor of the International Film Guide and currently works with the London Film Festival, Rotterdam International Film Festival and Sheffield DocFest.


Andres Veiel is an award-winning filmmaker and one of the most distinguished representatives of politically engaged art in Germany.


Daniela Völker is an Argentine/ German/ British filmmaker. Her feature documentary The Commandant's Shadow screened at Aldeburgh Documentary Festival in 2024.
